Wake up and smell the bacon

Holiday Inn Express by IHG has launched a scent-based alarm clock to give guests the early morning smell of breakfast.

The hotel chain is reimagining mornings for travellers with world-first innovation the Breakfast Alarm Clock, an in-room device that wakes guests with the aroma of fresh coffee, bacon or blueberry muffins.

Available in Australia, New Zealand and select hotels in Singapore, Thailand and Japan, the diffuser-style device replaces grating alarms with comforting breakfast scents.

“Holiday Inn Express is about offering guests more of what matters… that first whiff of coffee or sizzling bacon can work wonders – especially when it’s free,” says Dean Jones, vice president, commercial, East Asia and Pacific, IHG Hotels & Resorts.

The concept was inspired by research showing 60 per cent of Australians say a pleasant smell helps lift their morning mood, with coffee and bacon topping the list of preferred aromas.
