The Lands by Capella will open its doors in the Harbour City in the heritage-listed Department of Lands building, adjacent to 192-room hotel Capella Sydney.
Blending heritage with modern sophistication, The Lands by Capella is promising to provide elevated luxury events, including black-tie galas, cocktail soirees, conferences, weddings, art showcases, product launches and business events.
Located on Level Two of The Lands by Capella, five light-filled event venues feature high ceilings, architectural details and flexible configurations.
The heart of the venue features 536-square-metre Capella Ballroom, which offers views of Sydney Harbour Bridge and can host up to 400 guests cocktail-style.
The venue’s Liberty Ballroom spans 353 square metres and accommodates up to 250 guests, while smaller suites – The Botanist, The Surveyors and The Explorers – range from 79 square metres to 156 square metres.
Events at The Lands by Capella are supported by an in-house team of specialists, with native-fusion menus curated by executive chef Gabriele Taddeucci.
“We are proud to reintroduce this iconic building to Sydney in a way that honours its past and redefines its future,” says Marc von Arnim, general manager, Capella Sydney.
“There is nothing else like this in Australia – a collection of events spaces that balance heritage and luxury with such care and refinement.
“The early response to bookings reflects the appetite for something truly special, and we’re thrilled to bring that to life.”
By late 2026, the full transformation of the Department of Lands building to The Lands by Capella will be complete, with more than 10,000 square metres of curated experiences, from restaurants and bars to retail and cultural activations.
“It’s exciting to see new venues open with such thoughtfulness in the heart of the city,” says Melissa Brown, CEO, Australian Business Events Association.
“There is always a need for more and different styles of venues to suit the broad range and scope of business events.
“It is wonderful to see historic buildings renewed and adapted to enhance the quality of meetings and event experiences.”
