Crowne Plaza Melbourne has unveiled its new look guest rooms following a 12-month refurbishment project.

As part of the $25 million transformation, all 402 rooms have been renovated with contemporary bathrooms, standalone showers, premium bedding and designer furnishings.

The hotel’s City View rooms now feature spacious walk-in wardrobes and workstations, while the hotel’s Luxury suites feature deep bathtubs and walk-in showers, plus new furniture and bedding.

Bathrooms have also been updated

Describing the inspiration behind the new-look rooms, Tina Parkinson, senior development manager for hotel owners SB&G Group, said the goal was to blend work and leisure while ensuring the design was functional and contemporary.

“Multiple work spaces enable casual and formal work areas, open ‘walk-in’ wardrobes enhance the leisure experience, and bright and inspiring accents complement the rooms’ neutral and calming tones,” she said.

“Artwork by Australian photographer Judith Martinez is a key design feature in all of the rooms and her ‘Layers of Melbourne’ digital collages have a great impact.”

Phase two of the refurbishment will begin in the second quarter of 2019, and will include updates to conference and event spaces, a new restaurant and bar concept, as well as upgrades to the pool, gymnasium and lobby.

David Mansfield, area general manager for InterContinental Hotel Group for Melbourne and Canberra, said the renovation is the first step in the hotel’s new chapter.

“Few properties in Melbourne have a history as rich as Crowne Plaza Melbourne and the standard to which all of the hotel’s guestrooms have been refurbished is outstanding,” he said.

“With phase one of the refurbishment now complete, together with the hotel owners SB&G Group, we are excited by the appeal the new rooms will have for business, long-stay and leisure travellers and we look forward to welcoming them.”
