The best of Darwin was on offer to select group of event planners at the recent Darwin Showcase, hosted by the Northern Territory Convention Bureau.

The group, which represented PCOs, DMCs, corporations, institutes and associations, were given invaluable insight into all Darwin has to offer, from a culture, cuisine, business and industry perspective.

An al fresco breakfast on the waterfront Frangipani Plaza at the award-winning Darwin Convention Centre set the scene for the four-day trip and was followed by business sessions with a range of local speakers.

Cultural elements included the Pudakul Aboriginal Cultural tour, which was conducted by an Aboriginal community elder and his daughter, delivering fascinating insights from the two generations.

The group also engaged in painting and weaving workshops with Aboriginal Bush Traders in the CBD.

David Leach, conference and events manager at the Australian Society of Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy, had positive feedback on the showcase of Darwin.

“It’s a destination that’s on many people’s bucket list — combine that with amazing weather, a relaxed vibe, unique Australian cultural experiences, a nice convention centre and a town that delegates can easily walk around,” he says.

“There are some awesome venues for events and local providers who are willing to do whatever it takes, which means it ticks a lot of boxes.

“The precinct near the convention centre makes things easy and being on the doorstep to Kakadu and the Tiwi Islands makes it a unique destination for pre- and post-event touring options too. “

The delegates were impressed with Darwin’s dining options, such as SKYCITY Darwin, the award-winning Pee Wee’s at the Point and Wharf One Food and Wine.

Finally, the group toured the National Critical Care and Trauma Response Centre’s warehouse facility, before the Meet the Market informal trade show session at The Precinct.
