North Queensland’s Flames of the Forest has lifted the curtain on its first major refurbishment in five years.
Located in the World Heritage-listed Daintree Rainforest, the permanent offsite venue has introduced a variety of new lighting fixtures and technology in a bid to modernise its event spaces, as a result of growing interest from the domestic and international incentive market in the Port Douglas region.
Additions include six custom-designed crystal chandeliers featuring their own colour-changing LED lights, new black silk curtaining fitted into the ceiling, and the installation of state-of-the art lighting around the venue.
“Major tourism operators including Sheraton Mirage Port Douglas, Crystalbrook Superyacht Marina, Quicksilver, and Hartley’s Creek Crocodile Adventures have invested hundreds of millions of dollars in refurbishing their products recently which has created significant interest in the business events sector both domestically and internationally,” said General Manager of Flames of the Forest Natalie Johnson.
“It’s always a daunting task refurbishing in the rainforest, particularly given we had to completely gut the venue of the existing chandeliers, lighting rigs, crystal curtains and silk lining before we could even proceed with building all the new fixtures. The entire process was an exceptional team effort.”
Johnson also revealed that the venue has seen significant growth in bookings for the year ahead from the incentive market.
“Port Douglas has become the flavour of the month once again for the lucrative MICE market and we want to do all we can to showcase our amazing destination to the world.”
