Hot Venue: Kid Kyoto, Sydney

From Sam Prince Hospitality Group (SPHG) – the team who has brought you the likes of INDU and Mejico – comes Kid Kyoto, a grungy 80s-90s themed Japanese restaurant scheduled to open its doors in late Spring.

The Sydney venue, which is set to open in a vacant 273m² space previously occupied by Bridge Street Garage, will seat 120 guests and will embrace an open kitchen, adding to the sensory appeal and theatrics of the cuisine as chefs cook over Japanese charcoal.

The renovation includes swapping the entrance from Bridge Street to Bridge Lane, creating a more discreet laneway entry; with the design to focus on raw materials such as polished concrete, exposed ceiling and brickwork to allow for the real wow factors of the punk inspired art and music to shine.

SPHG Chief Operating Officer Karen Westfield said they “fell in love with the look of the building”.

“Like many of the best izakaya bars we visited in Japan, it’s going to have an element of surprise – entering from a back alley, where guests will then travel along a long corridor to with low lighting and rocking music adding to the drama.”

Themed by an era of music that encouraged its listeners to be different, the menu will push the boundaries of contemporary Japanese cooking. The a la carte dishes will focus on the izakaya-style of dining, with a modern twist on small sharing plates, fresh seafood and grilled meats.
