Best Western Hotels and Resorts has opened the 4-star Best Western Hunter Gateway in Rutherford, NSW.

Located 40km north-west of Newcastle in the City of Maitland, the property has completed a $1 million refurbishment to its 62 rooms and reception area.

Guest rooms range from standard queen to family rooms sleeping up to five people and include 32-inch LED TVs, Nespresso coffee machines and complimentary WiFi. The property offers free parking, an outdoor swimming pool and private terraces facing out onto natural gardens.

“The Best Western Hunter Gateway is an excellent example of the high calibre of Best Western’s regional properties,” said Rob Anderson, Best Western Australasia’s chief executive.

“The hotel has been redesigned with the guest in mind. It’s a welcome addition to the region with its distinct earthy colour scheme, which we feel will appeal to domestic and international travellers.”

For meetings and events, the Maitland Conference Room is the largest event space holding up to 200 people in a theatre style setting. The onsite Mebar Restaurant is due to open by December 2015.

Property manager Chris Reese said, “We re-branded with Best Western because the group gives us a point of difference in the region. Over $1 million has been invested to create a fresh new look for the property, and we’re proud to say it’s now the most modern in the area.”

Guests staying at the Best Western Hunter Gateway will be close to the New England Highway and only a 90 minute drive to Sydney and 30 minutes to the Hunter Wine Country.

Other nearby attractions include the Maitland Golf Club, the Big Ugg Boots outside Mortels Sheepskin Factory in Thornton and the Hunter Valley Cheese Factory in Pokolbin.

The Best Western Hunter Gateway becomes the fifth Best Western hotel in the Hunter region with three hotels operating in Newcastle and one in East Maitland.
