Tourism Australia's John O’Sullivan said the new flights represent a major boost for South Australia.

Tourism Australia managing director John O’Sullivan said the new Qatar services offering daily flights to Adelaide, that follow Cathay Pacific’s recent decision to add a fifth weekly flight to the city, represented a major boost for South Australia.

“South Australian Tourism Commission and Adelaide Airport deserve huge credit for having secured this new daily service, which represents a significant increase in international aviation capacity. We look forward to combining the marketing resources of all our teams in the coming weeks and months and working together to ensure we build strong and sustainable demand for the new service,” O’Sullivan said.

The additional capacity is likely to be particularly popular with European delegates travelling to Adelaide for business events such as the 68th International Astronautical Congress 2017 and the International Small Islands Studies Association Conference, by providing international access direct to the city. The new flights are perfectly timed to compliment Adelaide’s growing capability to handle such large-scale association events, with new infrastructure, including hotels, the South Australian Health and Medical Research Institution and the ongoing redevelopment of Adelaide Convention Centre all set to capitalise on the new air services.

Adelaide’s credentials as a destination for business events continues to grow, further evidenced by Tourism Australia’s decision to host Dreamtime 2015, its signature incentive showcase, in Adelaide.

The Qatar Airways daily direct A350 flight from Doha, Qatar will begin on 2 May, 2016. The new flights depart Doha QR914 at 20:55, arrive Adelaide at 16:25 (next day) and depart Adelaide QR915 at 21:30, arrive Doha at 04:50 (next day).
