Redevelopment plans for Jupiters Townsville Hotel and Casino have been revealed with a ‘vision in mind to develop the property into a contemporary entertainment precinct for North Queensland’ according to owners Colonial Leisure Group (CLG).

Global architecture firm Woods Bagot has completed the proposed plans with a resort-style pool featuring a swim-up bar and surrounded by an elevated timber terrace.

The design also includes refreshed dining destinations and a flexible new pavilion for poolside events.

CLG executive chairman Chris Morris said the proposed plan has been costed at approximately AUD$30 million, with works to refurbish three hotel floors to commence later this year.

Woods Bagot has designed the expansion to take advantage of the property’s outlook to the Coral Sea and Magnetic Island, proposing new function and events spaces, restaurants and bars and an impressive spiral deck that wraps around the infinity pool.

“These plans are the first visual stage in the revitalisation of the site,” Morris said.

“We believe the redevelopment will help evolve this property’s reputation as a premium entertainment and leisure destination for North Queensland; and the completed development will support Townsville’s efforts establishing itself as a genuine tourism destination – which will benefit all of us whether directly or indirectly.

“I can see the Townsville community embracing this property for years to come just as they have for the past 29 years.

“It would be the minority of North Queenslanders who have never experienced this venue – whether attending concerts, conferences, weddings, graduations, celebrations, visiting friends or family staying at the hotel, gaming at the casino or dining at the restaurants; this is an iconic property in North Queensland.

“That’s why we have named the property ‘The Ville’. A name that is synonymous with Townsville that locals can be proud of and claim as their own. A name that connects the venue with this city and the region, that travellers can associate with Townsville. A name that aligns with our relaxed, retro, resort-style redevelopment,” Morris said.

He said Jupiters Townsville will transition to its new name The Ville later this year.
