EEAA Announces support for new industry event: Business Events Week

The Exhibitions and Events Association of Australasia (EEAA) welcomed today’s announcement by Victorian Tourism and Major Events Minister Louise Asher of a designated Business Events Week to be held annually in Melbourne during the Asia-Pacific Incentives and Meetings Expo (AIME).

Asher, also Minister for Innovation, Services and Small Business, revealed plans for the Business Events Week at the opening of the EEAA’s annual conference at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre.

EEAA general manager Joyce DiMascio said the decision by the Victorian Government was an emphatic endorsement of the power of exhibitions.

“This is further evidence that Government and business recognise the value of exhibitions and events and their role in growing economic activity,” said DiMascio.

“AIME brings together exhibitors, Hosted Buyers and visitors from the meetings and incentives industry from around the world to network and do business. Clearly the Victorian Government wants a piece of this action and we commend them for their foresight.”

DiMascio said EEAA would participate in Business Events Week using it as a platform to reinforce the benefits of exhibitions and events to the national economy.

“This is a growing industry and most importantly a highly effective marketing channel for a whole range of industries and businesses,” said DiMascio. “Over the past year we have gathered hard data that demonstrates the sector’s contribution to the economy and its importance as an employer and generator of new business.”

AIME is organised by Reed Travel Exhibitions and owned by the Melbourne Convention and Visitors Bureau which will host the two day event from February 26-27.

“The purpose of AIME is to develop new business in the Asia-Pacific region, something which is top of mind for all Australian businesses and governments,” said  DiMascio. “So while the event will be held in Victoria AIME provides a truly global platform in which all of Australia is on show.

“If ever there was an opportunity to embrace the Asian Century from your own backyard, this is it.”
