Today the 2012 Melbourne Cup Carnival will for the first time offer General Admission race-goers an experience akin to the exclusive marquees of the Birdcage with the opening of the stylish new trackside venue, the Schweppes Flemington Fling Bar.

Located in General Admission on Level 1 of the newly refurbished Hill Stand at Flemington Racecourse, the Schweppes Flemington Fling Bar will be the heart of the action during the Melbourne Cup Carnival as the only space in the section with DJs spinning tunes and a bar that serves cocktails.

Schweppes Australia senior brand manager, Ben Goss, explained that when the opportunity arose to create a bespoke space for the general public as part of the Hill Stand refurbishments, Schweppes leapt at the opportunity to offer a premium experience in the heart of General Admission.

“The Melbourne Cup Carnival is a fantastic time of year when everyone gets swept up by the excitement of this fantastic event. We wanted to provide a high end option for all race-goers to make the most of their day on the course, which is exactly what the Flemington Fling Bar offers,” said Goss.

Under the unique partnership between Schweppes Australia and the Victoria Racing Club, the Flemington Fling bar will serve cocktails of the same name, the first official cocktail of the Melbourne Cup Carnival.

“While Kentucky Derby has the iconic Mint Julep and one tends to drink Pimms at Royal Ascot, 2012 will see the launch of the Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival’s first ever signature cocktail, the Schweppes Flemington Fling, createdin partnership with the VRC,” said Goss.

The Schweppes Flemington Fling Bar sets an incredible celebratory atmosphere by creating a visually stimulating environment of colour and contrasts: the immaculately laid out bar has been created in a modern industrial style and is decked with fresh blooms in vibrant hues, while the colourful Schweppes 1783 varieties line the wall behind the bar.

The colour spreads to the adjacent balcony, decked out with a vibrant green astro-turf lawn and offering punters premium views of the course from the bar’s elevated position.

Patrons can stake out a prime position at one of the tall tables on the balcony as well as inside the bar and enjoy the beats spun by two of Melbourne’s hottest DJs, former Nova host Jody McLeod and rising star Lauren Mac.

Bartenders will create an assortment of Schweppes cocktails including the Schweppes Flemington Fling, with Schweppes Agrum Collection Blood Orange, refreshing mint, tangy lime and vodka. It is anticipated that the hardworking mixologists will mix approximately 1,200 Flemington Flings on each day of the Carnival.

At capacity the Flemington Fling Bar holds 600 people and is expected to host over 2,000 racegoers throughout the Carnival.

The Schweppes Flemington Fling Bar will be open to the public from 9:30am until 30 minutes after last race until Emirates Stakes Day (Saturday, 10 November).
