Shangri-La’s new lifestyle Kerry Hotel in Shanghai is targeting the Australian outbound MICE market in a strategic move to capture large-scale conferences and events.

The Kerry Hotel, located in Shanghai’s Pudong district, features the city’s largest pillar-less ballroom capable of seating over 2750 people and with 574 guestrooms upstairs, is capable of accommodating many on site.

Speaking exclusively to SpiceNews on camera in Shanghai this week (Sep 26), Kerry Hotel’s General Manager Ed Brea, formerly of Shangri-La Cairns, said Australia was a key market for the property, particularly given the increasing number of flights to China from Australia’s eastern seaboard.

Brea said the Kerry Hotels brand was a major focus for Shangri-La globally and more were expected to open across Asia in the coming years, including Beijing in a couple of months’ time.
