Last Wednesday a new luxury nightspot, 21, opened its doors on Kellett Street in the beating heart of Kings Cross for the first time.

Drawing inspiration from the style of a New York loft and its industrial heritage, the men behind the new nightspot – John Ibrahim, Poata Okeroa and Dave Auld – chose the name 21, paying homage to the infamous Kellett Club, which occupied the space in the 1920s and was renowned for having operated Blackjack in the Prohibition era.

The interior of 21 combines the relaxed feeling of a loft style apartment with the luxurious elements characteristic of an Upper East Side establishment.

Designed using raw materials including its original brick walls and exposed concrete, reclaimed timber, graphic laser cut motifs and standout copper features, the space is completed with soft leather, Chesterfield furniture and black mirror to make for an experience that is both urban and decadent.

21 is located at 12 Kellett Street, Potts Point and is open from Tuesday – Thursday, 7pm until late and Friday – Sunday, 7pm until 5am

The lower level of 21 can comfortably accommodate up to 40 guests in the lounge style bar and balcony, whilst the upper level of 21 houses the main bar, five private seated booths for dining and premium bottle service, a dance floor with oversized bronze mirror ball, and two additional raised seating areas, accommodating up to 250 guests.
