Travel Agents association recognises MICE in tourism awards

The Australian Federation of Travel Agents (AFTA) will celebrate excellence in the Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions (MICE) sector of the industry for the first time at this year's National Travel Industry Awards.


The Australian Federation of Travel Agents (AFTA) will celebrate excellence in the ‘Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions’ (MICE) sector of the industry for the first time at this year’s National Travel Industry Awards.

CEO of AFTA, Jayson Westbury, says the AFTA board acknowledges the increasing importance of the MICE industry, which has driven them to include it as an independent category in this year’s awards.

“The new award category serves to not only recognise the expert skills and knowledge required for orchestrating such highly complex business travel arrangements, but also provides ongoing encouragement to businesses and staff members who consistently display outstanding performance in their service, marketing and business acumen,” he said. .

Five finalists will by vying for the inaugural award:

­ Australian Business & Conference Travel, NSW
­ cievents, NSW
­ CPE Travel, QLD
­ Destination Event Management, VIC
­ etm Group Travel , VIC


The finalists will submit a verbal presentation to a panel of AFTA judges, where they will be rated based on range of criteria including customer service, strategy and innovation. The winner will be announced on Saturday, 9 July at the gala awards night, where they will be presented with a prize sponsored by South African Airways.
