Accor has spent an estimated $10,000 on each room as part of the upgrade, and approximately $40,000 on average per one-bedroom suite at the hotel. The hotel’s general manager, Shane Edwards says the renovation will help Mercure attract significantly greater numbers of international and interstate visitors to Cairns.

“Mercure Cairns Harbourside is an iconic and well established property in Cairns, and this renovation has been well timed to take advantage of the focus on our region by airlines and the industry which will help stimulate the next important phase for the hotel.

“This hotel is immensely important and sought out by the inbound market, as well as domestic travellers familiar with the great value and quality the Mercure brand represents.

“Our refurbishment will help us attract significantly greater numbers of international and interstate visitors to Cairns, and further boost the city’s reputation as one of the great tourist destinations in the world.”

The hotel is located on the Esplanade with views over Trinity Bay or the rainforest-clad mountains and features an outdoor pool and spa and is within walking distance of the best attractions, restaurants and entertainment in town.

The hotel provides three conference rooms, catering for up to 120 delegates theatre style or 85 banquet style, and offers the Mercure brand’s innovative carbon neutral ‘Mercure Meetings’ product, attracting environmentally conscious government and private sector businesses and conferencing events. The ‘Mercure Meetings’ initiative allows conference guests to offset the carbon emissions produced from meetings activity at the hotel and the Mercure will fully fund offsets produced during the event at no cost to the client.
