Group Bookings Hit Hard: Tourism Australia

The head of Australia's peak tourism body says the group bookings market has been the hardest segment hit in the current global financial crisis.

Group bookings have been the hardest hit segment in the current global financial crisis, according to Tourism Australia managing director, Geoff Buckley.

Speaking exclusively to SpiceNews during AIME, Buckley said 2009 will be a challenge and “while some markets are holding up quite well, some are significantly affected”.

“We see it as another tough year, there’s no doubt about that,” he said.

Buckley also said Tourism Australia has had a good response from its recently released National Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Audit.

Tourism Australia is one of the first national tourist offices globally to have conducted an audit to identify businesses with solid CSR credentials.
