Wrest Point Announces Art Award Recipients At VIP Event

Tasmania's Wrest Point's Art Awards have presented its winners at an official VIP cocktail presentation held at Wrest Point's Boardwalk Gallery

Tasmania’s Wrest Point’s Art Awards have presented its winners at an official  VIP cocktail presentation held at Wrest Point’s Boardwalk Gallery.

Managed by the Federal Group, Wrest Point adds the works of acquisitive winners to their collection of Tasmanian artwork. The Federal Group executive director Julia Farrell presented the AUD$8,000 first prize, AUD$3,000 highly commended prize, and AUD$3,000 photographic media prize. Judges selected the following winners from ninety-eight artworks, entered by fifty individual Tasmanian artists:

First Prize (AUD$8,000) – Stuart Clues, “Peat Fires”
Highly Commended (AUD$3,000) – Gillian Lojek, “Reflections”
Photographic Media (AUD$3,000) – Wolfgang Glowacki, “At peace, a reflection of Cradle Mt”

The People’s Choice award is set to be announced at the conclusion of the exhibition which runs from the 10-18 of January.
“Once again, the Wrest Point Art Awards received an outstanding standard of entries. Every year we are reminded of the quality of work being produced by Tasmania’s talented art community – and 2009 has been no exception,” said Farrell.

“We are extremely proud of the tradition we have created in respect to the Wrest Point Art Awards and we are equally proud of the opportunities it creates for Tasmanian artists. I congratulate the winners and all entrants on an outstanding body of work.”
