If you work in events, you probably know that technology is starting to play a huge part in how events are sold, and come together.

Touch screens

By 2020, millennials will form 50% of the global workforce*.
So what does that mean for events? In the simplest terms, it means we need to be catering for the most digitally sophisticated generation yet. And that means embracing their ideas of participation, engagement, and entertainment.

This is a generation that’s grown up in the digital era. They’re tech-savvy, and approach working life from a different perspective. Constant connectivity is the norm. The world is accessible from devices you carry in your pocket, be it social media, email, the Internet or apps.

Digital engagement isn’t an option anymore. It’s vital. Plus it gives tangible, measurable outcomes for an event. So it’s easy to see why it’s time that digital event tools are considered as important as the food and beverages served.

It’s a simple truth. If you’re not thinking digital, you’re missing out on big opportunities. Not just to engage with your audience, but to strengthen the messages you want to convey to your attendees.

What’s the forecast saying?

If you’ve seen sci-fi movies like Minority Report and Iron Man, you’ll know the future is touch screens, virtual screens and gesture control. We can already see this happening in front of us with mobile phones. Touch screens have started their migration into everyday use – and basic gesture control is even available in some cars! We can expect events to jump on board too.

The opportunities to incorporate digital products and services in events can’t be underestimated. In a world that’s connected 24/7, today’s attendees expect digital engagement to be part of the event from the time they register online, to seeing their photos on your website after the event.

For 2016, you can expect to see the popularity of digital event technologies soar, and attendee engagement to continue to grow to new heights.
