A 'Super September' on the cards for the Events Industry

[Tue 17/07/2012 08:32:00]

Get out your diaries as a 'Super September' approaches with a line-up of several major industry occasions approaching.

Mid-September will bring industry professionals together for a multi-sector demonstration of the significant value of events for Australia, with the staging of the Australian Event Symposium, Australian Event Awards and several associated events.

The two-day Australian Event Symposium will unite the best events thinkers and doers in the country to consider creativity, innovation and the business of events in over 40 sessions.

Described by Sandy Hollway AO, Sydney 2000 Olympic Chief, as “the most important annual stocktake of the Australian event industry”, the Symposium aims to unearth strategies for the continued advancement of our highly-skilled industry at home and abroad. Industry leaders of the future are key to this strategy, and the half-day Event Education Forum will examine how event educators can enhance the student experience.

Young Australians also have the chance to win international internships by pitching ideas for a hallmark Australian event in the new competition What’s the Big Idea? Pitch it to Me!, and can be recognised for their outstanding achievements this past year by vying for the Young Achiever of the Year Australian Event Award.

The Australian Event Awards will be presented at the industry’s glamour event of the year, the Industry Night of Nights, which concludes the first day of the Symposium. There is only one week to go before entries close and the judges decide the best of the best in Australian events, which will be showcased at the presentation of the finalists and winners. Adding another dimension to this period of industry development is a meeting of high-profile events minds at a Think Tank prior to the Symposium.

The roundtable will shape the topics to be addressed in open forums and Q&A sessions for delegates, and some Think Tank participants will also present at the conference. This powerhouse week of industry activity supports Hollway’s promotion of the industry as a national asset, as he put forth at the combined Symposium and Awards launch in May. The opportunity for industry-wide discussion offered this September will see further development of the growing vision to align events with the country’s strategies for innovation, trade and investment.

Some key dates in the lead up to September include:

Australian Event Awards entries close on 23 July

Australian Event Awards Night of Nights tickets are on sale now

What’s the Big Idea? submissions close on 31 August

Early Bird registrations for the Symposium end on 2 August;
