Chef Matt Moran tours Tassie for T-Qual

[Tue 10/04/2012 10:01:12]

Chef Matt Moran, recently spent the weekend in Tasmania on the second leg of the T-QUAL Tick Tour.

The renowned chef made the trip to the state to visit some of Tasmania’s best tourism experiences that are endorsed by the Australian Government’s new national symbol of tourism quality, the T-QUAL Tick. Tourism businesses that carry the T-QUAL Tick have undergone rigorous assessment to ensure they deliver a quality experience.

Celebraity Chef Matt Moran experienced some of the best tourism products Tasmania has on offer during his T-QUAL Tick tour.

The T-QUAL Tick is the Australian Government’s national symbol of tourism quality. Tourism businesses that carry the T-QUAL Tick have undergone rigorous assessment to ensure they deliver a quality experience. These businesses are members of quality assurance schemes that have met the requirements of T-QUAL Accreditation - the Australian Government’s quality benchmark for the tourism industry.

Moran began his tour enjoying the gracious hospitality of Lenna of Hobart. Nestled amidst the colour of Sullivan's Cove and historic Battery Point, the national trust listed waterfront hotel was the perfect starting point for his Tasmanian adventure.

First up on the on the tour was a stop at the Maritime Museum of Tasmania, where Moran learned about the exploits of early explorers and Tasmania’s maritime history through the collection’s artefacts, tools, equipment and over 10,000 photographs and paintings. From there Moran  moved from land to air and sea. Tasmanian Air Adventures provided Matt with a bird’s eye view of the landscape, before he embarked on an afternoon cruise with Tasman Island Cruises, taking in wilderness and wildlife at Port Arthur including sea cliffs, seals, dolphins, whales, seabirds and eagles.

After a full day’s adventure experiencing T-QUAL endorsed products, Matt Moran returned to the comfort and refined surroundings of the Henry Jones Art Hotel. With its combination of the antique and ultra modern, this unique property gave Matt the opportunity to see some of the best contemporary Tasmanian art and enjoy the hotel’s fusion of art, heritage, tradition and nature.

The following morning began with a tour of the acclaimed Museum of Old and New Art, located within the Moorilla winery on the Berriedale peninsula, where he viewed antiquities, modern and contemporary art from the David Walsh collection. The afternoon provided the perfect opportunity for a tour of Hobart with the Red Decker Company, giving Matt the chance to experience the picturesque charm of Tasmania’s capital atop the big red bus.

“I have visited Tasmania before, but its beauty and the variety of activities available for tourists here never cease to amaze me,” he said. “The places I have visited this weekend were just a small example of the high-quality hotels, tours and experiences that are available in Tasmania."

The next stop on Matt’s T-QUAL Tour will be the Northern Territory later this month.
