New Executive Director announced for AACB

The Association of Australian Convention Bureaux (AACB) has announced that Andrew Hiebl will take on the role of executive director from 30 April.
Andrew’s extensive business event industry experience equips him well for this executive role, which focuses on fuelling industry-wide collaboration for the mutual benefit of the 17 city and regional convention bureau members across Australia.
Andrew Hiebl has been recently named the new executive director for the AACB.
Most recently, Andrew has held the positions of Convention Bureau manager, Business Events Geelong and chairperson of Business Events Victoria.
“Andrew’s innovative thinking, savvy marketing and partnership strategies, and passionate advocacy are recognised by his peers," said AACB president Damien Kitto. "AACB is eagerly anticipating his fresh ideas and insight and his contribution to the future of our association.
“Andrew takes the reins from Mike Cannon who worked at the AACB for 11 years. Earlier this year Mike decided to take on a new career challenge. While sad to see him leave, we wish him every success in his new endeavor. And we are of course excited to have Andrew on board with us for an initial three-year contract.”
“I’m honoured to be joining AACB," said Heibl. "Mike and I share similar views – that the success of our industry requires a collaborative approach to enhancing Australia’s business event offering. This is something that I will continue to champion in my role as executive director.
“I’ve also been a long-term advocate for the value and importance of regional business events destinations. AACB’s 17 members, whether representing large metropolitan cities or smaller regional destinations, all have a unique, as well as a shared perspective that is valuable for our industry. Being able to work with my convention bureaux colleagues from across the country to tackle issues that affect us all is something I’m really looking forward to.”
Hiebl will officially assume the role on 30 April 2012. He will be based in Melbourne and operate out of the Melbourne Convention and Visitor Bureau.
The Association of Australian Convention Bureaux Inc. consists of 17 city and regional bureaux, dedicated to marketing their specific region as premier business events destinations to intrastate, interstate and international markets. The bureaux also recognise their responsibility to promote Australia as a whole.
