EEAA offers industry update on Darling Harbour Development

[Thu 15/03/2012 02:28:21]

The Exhibition and Event Association of Australasia (EEAA) is hosting its second project update for the business events industry on the redevelopment of Sydney's Darling Harbour in partnership with Infrastructure NSW on Friday March 23.

The project update will cover the latest news about the redevelopment, keys issues related to the timetable, impacts during the build phase and strategies for business continuity.

EEAA general manager, Joyce DiMascio says that the association has continued to work with Infrastructure NSW and other arms of Government over the past month on critical issues related to business continuity.

“We have undertaken an audit of the events that will be affected by the proposed closure and are working with the Government to assess the options being proposed as alternative sites for holding events during the proposed closure period of Darling Harbour.

“Numerous high level meetings and workshops have been held between the NSW Government and those who will be impacted by the proposed closure of Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre, exploring the options and trying to find workable solutions.

Infrastructure NSWDestination NSW and Business Events Sydney are all keen to keep business in Sydney and working with exhibition and event organisers to find suitable alternative sites that will work and deliver clients a quality experience and organisers a financially viable outcome,”  DiMascio said.

The EEAA Consultative Committee which was formed to provide advice to Infrastructure NSW on the logistics and operational viability of the proposed interim facility, have visited the site and provided detailed feedback.

Presenters at the second project update will include: Tim Parker, project director of Sydney International Convention, Exhibition and Entertainment Precinct, Infrastructure NSW and Peter Thorpe, general manager of Sydney Showground.
