Workshop Events creates Shanghai Chic for charity

[Wed 30/11/2011 04:20:26]

Workshop Events supported the YWCA NSW once again this year in providing complimentary event expertise to design, create and produce the Shanghai Chic-themed fundraising party, held in the Pavilion at the Australian Turf Club in Sydney.

Workshop Events created a Shanghai Chic-themed fundraising party for YWCA NSW

“Our team transformed the Pavilion into an exotic, oriental space for this year’s Mother of All Balls, creating an experience not to be forgotten. As always we hope our participation as a pro bono supporter has contributed to the YWCA NSW’s efforts in continuing their programs assisting disadvantaged individuals, families and communities at critical times in their lives.” said Sarah Philips, overseeing the project and event producer at Workshop Events.

As part of the theming arrangements, the venue’s high ceiling glowed a deep fuscia, highlighting four oversized chandeliers hanging just above the tables. Custom made by Workshop Events for the event, the chandeliers comprised of over 300 coloured lanterns in dramatic 4-metre drops.

In conjunction with Grandiflora, Workshop Events styled tables with full, deep coral-coloured peonies surrounding antique birdcages and delicate lotus tea lights that added shimmering candlelight.

Many of the styling elements required were sourced by the event team to create an authentic look and feel. The team also designed and built many pieces mixing oriental shapes and patterns with classic objects to give a Paris of the East feel.

The event that raised nearly $300,000 for the charity, included other highlights such as  Richard Wilkins as MC, a menu designed by Luke Mangan, performances by Wendy Matthews and Glenn Shorrock and the creation of a live installation piece by artist Shannon Crees that was auctioned later in the night.

Monique Cornell, co-chairperson of the Mother of All Balls committee was overjoyed with the event, celebrating the creativity and professionalism of the Workshop Events’ team.
