New event to focus on a $200 billion industry

[Thu 13/10/2011 11:06:18]

Diversified Exhibitions Australia has today announced the launch of a major new event in Perth focusing on Australia’s fast-growing, $200 billion liquefied natural gas (LNG) industry.

Diversified Exhibitions Australia will host The Australian Gas Techonology Conference & Exhibition at the Perth Convention Centre between 25-27 July July 2012 to boost the $200 billion LNG industry

The Australian Gas Technology Conference & Exhibition (AGT) is expected to bring up to 150 exhibitors and 5000 visitors to Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre from 25-27 July 2012, with its focus on gas processing and the construction and operation of LNG facilities, associated pipelines and exporting terminals.

AGT 2012, which will also address the industry’s current skills shortage with a strong careers component, has the support of the Western Australian government with Premier Colin Barnett accepting an invitation to become the event’s patron.

One of Australia’s largest exhibition organising companies, Diversified is well established in the oil and gas arena as the organiser of the Australasian Oil & Gas Exhibition & Conference (AOG), an event that brought an estimated $10,954,500 to Perth in 2011.

AGT event director, Bill Hare said the rapid growth of Australia’s LNG industry and increasing global demand for LNG as a lower emission alternative to traditional fossil fuels, such as coal and oil, had created demand for a dedicated event focusing on the cleaner burning fuel.

“More than $200 billion worth of LNG projects are on the drawing board in Australia and we’re poised to become the world’s second largest exporter of the fuel within the next 10 years,” said Hare.

“Western Australia alone produced 15.3 million tonnes of LNG – the equivalent of roughly 6 percent of global LNG production – last year and I can think of no better place to launch an exhibition and conference dedicated to innovation and technology in this industry.”

Hare said AGT would also encourage students to pursue a career in the growing gas industry with a careers and education zone targeting TAFE students, tertiary engineering and science students, and mature age workers, and a special program to attract indigenous students throughout Western Australia.

“It’s estimated that an extra 36,000 workers will be required to construct and operate all the planned LNG projects in Australia over the next decade, so the industry must attract the next generation of workers and effectively train and retain them,” he said.

AGT will also showcase the best of Australian gas innovation at the Australian Gas Innovation Awards, with winners to be recognised at an awards dinner during the event.

Potential exhibitors, speakers and supporters can register their interest for AGT 2012 at agt@divexhibitions.com.au or contact the AGT team on +61 3 9261 4500 or visit www.australiangastechnology.com.au for more information.
