Emirates expands rapidly growing network

[Thu 07/07/2011 10:57:06]

BY JAMES WILKINSON

The global route map of Emirates is continuing to grow at a rapid pace, with Copenhagen, St Petersburg, Rio de Janeiro and Buenos Aires all joining the network before February 2012.

Emirates is rapidly expanding in 2011

For conference and incentive planners, that means 112 destinations around the globe are now only two flight sectors away from Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane or Perth.

When the Danish capital comes online on August 1, 2011, it will be the 27th destination in Europe to be served by Emirates and the first time the airline has flown into one of the continent’s most popular regions.

“This new service is our first venture into Scandinavia and flights to Copenhagen will open up a new region on our growing network, connecting passengers and cargo to our state of the art hub in Dubai. We are now five weeks from the launch and into the final stages of preparations,” said Emirates' Divisional Senior Vice President, Commercial Operations Worldwide Richard Vaughan.

To coincide with the launch, Emirates is selling tickets to Copenhagen from Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane or Perth for $2058 in economy before July 15, after which they will offer the route for $1335 one way in economy or $7398 return in Business Class.

Passengers in all cabins on Emirates can enjoy the industry-leading ‘ice’ inflight entertainment system, which recently won the ‘World's Best Airline Inflight Entertainment’ award at the 2011 Skytrax World Airline Awards for the seventh year in a row.

Wonderful Copenhagen CEO Lars Bernhard Jorgensen said the new route to the Danish capital would be a key to the city luring more international visitors from Australia.

“We are very much aware of the fact that Emirates’ plans will be of great value for Copenhagen and Denmark,” he said.

“The importance of better accessibility from Copenhagen to South Asia, South East Asia and Australia cannot be exaggerated. Connections via Emirates’ mega hub in Dubai can help us here.”

Emirates is also launching direct flights from Dubai to Baghdad in 2011.
