Business Events leaders advise on Australian Expo direction

[Wed 22/06/2011 10:11:05]

The continued growth of the Australian Business Events Expo (ABEE) is an important feature of the overall success of the national business events industry, according to an ABEE Advisory Committee convened to consult on the direction of the Expo.

The group of business event leaders representing diverse facets of the industry expressed their enthusiasm about the Expo and its potential for delivering a strong injection of rejuvenation to the sector. They also offered recommendations on content, promotion and inclusion of aspects of the industry when they gathered for the inaugural meeting 3 June 2011.

The ABEE Advisory Committee was brought together by the owners of the tradeshow, Delwin Kriel, event manager, Australian Business Events Expo and Jodie Richmond, CEO and general manager, Exhibitions & Trade Fairs, with the aim of ensuring the Expo reflects the needs of the sector and continues to grow in numbers and credibility.

“The Expo brings sellers and buyers of business event products together. It is a dynamic platform for the business events industry to interact, network, learn, share and do business.

“The Expo has a lot riding on it as it is the only tradeshow dedicated to the domestic market which has undergone an enormous shift over the last few years. This show’s success is a vital cog in the growth of this industry,” says Kriel.

Advisory Committee member Dr Caroline Hong is an experienced senior executive who most recently was CEO of the Australasian Society for Ultrasound in Medicine. In this role, she was responsible for ensuring successful outcomes for many meetings, conferences and exhibitions that she hosted with local and international dignitaries.

Dr Hong has come on to the Advisory Board to share her experience and knowledge and provide valuable insights from a delegate, hosted buyer and association perspective.

“Engaging the association market correctly is a vital component to the success of business events generally. They host numerous meetings and conferences all over the country, but also have specific needs that require understanding and attention.

“The Australian Business Events Expo has the potential to work more closely with this sector to provide them with the support they need,” says Dr Hong.

The Australian Business Events Expo Advisory Committee will meet bi-monthly to provide advice and feedback to Exhibitions & Trade Fairs on the 2011 and 2012 Expos specifically.

Australian Business Events Expo will be held at Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre: 10 – 11 August, 2011.
