SPARC conference illuminates Sydney

“This is a cool event,” was Deputy Premier Andrew Stoner’s dry observation as he addressed a rugged-up crowd for the formal opening of SPARC Lighting Event in Sydney’s Metcalfe Park at Darling Island Warf on Monday 6th of June.

The Deputy Premier went on to acclaim creative industries events such as SPARC and the successful Vivid festival (which also wrapped up this Monday 13th of June), speaking about their interaction creating benefits for all, “creative industry businesses showcase their creative and technical capabilities through spectacular lighting, sound and digital installations, which in turn provide entertaining event content for local and visiting industry professionals and leisure visitors alike.

The Deputy Premier addressed the 400–strong gathering, replete with VIPs such as the recent CEO of Events NSW Geoff Parmenter along with luminaries from the Lighting Council Australia, the Illuminating Engineering Society and IALD.

This formal opening of the SPARC event was followed by two successful days of world class seminars, the latest lighting technology exhibitored by 44 companies from Australia, NZ and Asia, and a spectacular closing gala dinner, showcasing the Australasian lighting industry.

More the 2,500 guests attended throughout the three day Sydney showcase. Those involved read like a who’s who of lighting, including 17 internationally renowned lighting experts from across the globe including keynote speakers Chou Lien, lighting designer and president of Brandston Partnership Inc and Spiers + Major Director Mark Major.


Atendees were entertained over 3 days with endless examples of lighting technology and entertainment, including the famous Lazerman.
