CEO of AFTA, Jayson Westbury, says the AFTA board acknowledges the increasing importance of the MICE industry, which has driven them to include it as an independent category in this year's awards.

"The new award category serves to not only recognise the expert skills and knowledge required for orchestrating such highly complex business travel arrangements, but also provides ongoing encouragement to businesses and staff members who consistently display outstanding performance in their service, marketing and business acumen," he said. .

Five finalists will by vying for the inaugural award:

Australian Business & Conference Travel, NSW
 cievents, NSW
 CPE Travel, QLD
 Destination Event Management, VIC
 etm Group Travel , VIC

The finalists will submit a verbal presentation to a panel of AFTA judges, where they will be rated based on range of criteria including customer service, strategy and innovation. The winner will be announced on Saturday, 9 July at the gala awards night, where they will be presented with a prize sponsored by South African Airways.
