Melbourne's a-live helps Voltaren attempt World Record

[Thu 26/05/2011 11:01:11]

Melbourne event company a-live, were engaged by ISS Marketing to assist their client, Voltaren in successfully attempting the Guinness World Record for ‘largest exercise ball fitness class’ at the launch of Voltaren Pain Management Week in Melbourne.

305 eager participants and their exercise balls teamed up on  Sunday 22 May at Federation Square for the event.

The record attempt kicked off the launch of Voltaren’s National Pain Management week, a free public event which helped educate and inform Australians on how to manage their back, muscle and joint pain so they can keep moving

305 participants and their exercise balls gathered at Federation Square for the event.

The ab-crunching, muscle strengthening, functional and balance workout took place at Federation Square, Melbourne where fitness fanatics aged 14+ worked up a sweat and kept moving with determination to make their mark in the record books. The event included 50 massage therapists providing free 5min massages to the public, 23 personal trainers, 5000 pain management showbags, over 2000 basket balls and 550 branded swissballs that were gifts to all who participated in the record setting fit ball class.

The ‘largest exercise ball fitness class’ category is a brand new record category for Guinness World Records, officials set the minimum requirement at 250 participants. The Guinness World Record guidelines stipulate that the fitness class must follow the structure of a normal class and that the number of people taking part must be well versed in exercise ball movements.

The record attempt kicked off the launch of Voltaren’s National Pain Management week.

Participants must sit on their own exercise ball with a diameter of at least 60cm (2ft) and when on the ball, his or her thighs must be parallel to the floor. The class must last a minimum of 30 minutes and the pupils must remain the same throughout the entire lesson.

The ‘largest exercise ball fitness class’ was hosted by Taekwondo champion and trainer on Channel Ten’s The Biggest Loser, Tiffiny Hall and Andrew Gaze, Australian Basketball Legend and Voltaren Ambassador.

“We did it Ninja’s! “ said Hall, “Thank you to everyone who joined me this morning to set a Guinness World Record for the largest fit ball class. You were all warriors braving it in torrential rain.”

“We’re really thrilled we were able to hit the numbers for the Guinness World Record attempt today,” said Novartis OTC Operating Unit head Australia and New Zealand, Andrew Phillips. “The rain didn’t hold anyone back! It was a fantastic morning that left participants feeling, fit, invigorated and excited about setting the first ever record for this event.”

“Today’s launch reinforced the importance of the need for all Australians to keep moving as part of a holistic approach to managing their short-term body pain.” concluded Phillips.

“We were proud to bring ‘The joy of movement’ to life for Novartis,” said event coordinator for a-live, Sarah Normand. “Together we took on the challenge to hold the largest Fit Ball Class and set a Guinness World Record and were thrilled that 305 Melbournians accepted our invitation and braved the weather to participate."
