Tasmania's Freycinet Lodge recognised with eco-tourism certification

Freycinet Lodge, within the Freycinet National Park on Tasmania’s East Coast, has been recognised as one of Australia’s leading and most innovative ecotourism products, with Advanced Eco Certification from Ecotourism Australia.
The certification has been awarded to the Lodge’s accommodation and restaurant facilities, along with the following experiences:
One-hour Scenic Cruise, Oysters on the Bay Cruise. Wineglass Bay Circuit Hike, Wineglass to wine glass Experience,
Advanced Eco Certification (the top level available from Ecotourism Australia) recognises businesses that “provide an opportunity to learn about the environment with an operator who is committed to achieving best practice when using resources wisely, contributing to the conservation of the environment and helping local communities.”
Freycinet Lodge general manager King Santiago welcomed the certification, saying it was validation of the Lodge’s long-standing environmental practices.
“Being one of only two tourism properties in Australia located within a National Park, Freycinet Lodge has always maintained the highest of environmental practices,” Santiago said.
“To now have formal recognition of our commitment to the environment is very rewarding to our staff, who work tirelessly to maintain the strict regimes required of us by our owners, our visitors and the community as a whole.
“It is our responsibility to look after this special natural environment that our accommodation and restaurant are located in, and we see our experiences as our way of nurturing the surrounding environment and educating our visitors to do the same.”
