Sydney's MCA announces two new venues for October 2011

[Thu 21/04/2011 12:51:33]

Sydney's Museum of Contemporary Art (MCA) has announced the opening of the first phase of its $53 million redevelopment. The Museum’s two new harbour-side venues will be available for corporate and private hire from October 2011 and bookings are now being taken.

Situated on the rooftop of the existing MCA, in the heart of Circular Quay, the venues boast spectacular views across Sydney Harbour.

The MCA is confident that the rooftop venues will quickly be counted among Sydney’s most soughtafter entertaining spaces. The Harbourside Room has a capacity of 250 guests and the Quayside Room a capacity of 150 guests. Contemporary in their design, the rooms are ideal for a wide variety of events from private dinners to weddings, cocktail parties and conferences. They have been designed by Sydney architect Sam Marshall to take full advantage of the Museum’s location.

Both spaces feature floor toceiling glass doors which open onto partly covered private terraces featuring uninterrupted views from the Sydney Harbour Bridge to the Sydney Opera House. The new spaces provide greater flexibility for functions and can be tailored to suit any client’s needs.

The Museum is also delighted to announce that freshcatering has been appointed as the exclusive caterer for these exciting new rooftop venues.

“The Museum has established a strong reputation for delivering quality events overlooking Sydney Harbour,” said MCA director Elizabeth Ann Macgregor. “Now our experienced team of event professionals can benefit from freshcatering’s culinary expertise. They have an excellent reputation for using the best produce, the finest chefs and the most professional staff.”

Providing audiovisual production for the new spaces will be the team from AV1. Highly regarded in the events sector, AV1 provides leading edge technology and creative expertise to ensure events are delivered seamlessly.

The new rooftop venues will provide Sydney-siders with a first taste of the redeveloped MCA, which will open in full in early 2012. The $53M expansion signals a new era for Australia’s only museum dedicated to collecting and exhibiting the work of living artists. The redevelopment responds to the growing audience for contemporary art, with over 580,000 people visiting the galleries in 2010 and 100,000 using the MCA venues.

The expanded MCA, with an additional 4000 square metres, will include a prominent new entrance and foyer, new and refurbished galleries and a new MCA Café and Sculpture Terrace offering another venue option for cocktail events. A key component is the provision of new educational facilities creating the National Centre for Creative Learning. The redevelopment of the MCA will deliver the city, the state and the nation a world class contemporary art museum.

Bookings for the MCA Rooftop Venues are now open for events taking place from October 2011.
