Tourism Tasmania appoints new CEO

[Wed 23/03/2011 10:25:39]

Tourism Tasmania Chairman, Bob Annells announced on Tuesday (March 22) the appointment of Tony Mayell as the new Chief Executive Officer of Tourism Tasmania.

"Mr Mayell brings a wealth of experience in the public and private sectors, particularly in the areas of travel, tourism operations and distribution as well as extensive experience in transport logistics and tourism policy development and implementation,” said Annells.

Newly appointed CEO at Tourism Tasmania, Tony Mayell will commence his role in May 2011

“Mr Mayell’s experience in tourism distribution will assist Tourism Tasmania in continuing to develop and grow its relationship with trade networks throughout Australia and beyond. The travel trade are a critical component of Tasmania’s distribution strategy and we are confident that Mr Mayell will continue to grow the strong partnerships that already exist between Tasmania and trade networks.

“The current tourism and travel environment is challenging, where destinations are competing for market share in an ever-competitive consumer environment. Marketing the Tasmanian product and connecting Tasmanian product to the consumer and in our domestic and international markets will be significantly aided by Mr Mayell’s experience.

“Tourism plays a significant role in the Tasmanian economy with travellers to Tasmania spending approximately $2.251 billion each year in Tasmania, " he said.

Mayell has travelled extensively in Tasmania, and will be moving to the State from the Northern Territory with his family. He is due to commence at Tourism Tasmania in May 2011.
