Learn from the masterminds of the events industry in Perth

[Wed 27/10/2010 03:36:04]

Ever wanted to learn how the world’s major music festivals are managed? Wanting to organise your own community event or fair? Perhaps you’d like to improve your skills in holding corporate functions, or gain an understanding of how large sporting events are coordinated?

Whether you are a graduate or young professional trying to break into the West Australian events industry, or an experienced event manager wanting to update your skill-set, next month you will have the opportunity to add value to your career with a specialised Executive Certificate in Event Management, 15-18 November.

The course will be held at the Citigate Perth.

Taught by the internationally renowned Australian Centre for Event Management (ACEM) based at the University of Technology in Sydney (UTS), the Executive Certificate is regarded as the most prestigious short-course in event management amongst prospective employers and industry leaders in government, corporate and not-for-profit organisations.

“The event industry in Western Australia is growing rapidly and increasingly demands professional staff with recognised skills and qualifications, whom also have a knowledge of creative, operational, production, legal and safety issues,” said Robert Harris, ACEM director.

ACEM will present the annual Executive Certificate course at Citigate Perth, from 15 November to 18 November, offering students and event professionals a firm basis in theory and case studies, matched with practical insights from successful industry professionals.

“The Executive Certificate offers students and event professionals a firm basis in theory and case studies, matched with practical insights from successful industry professionals. All our students graduate with globally recognised credentials and have an invaluable networking experience with the leaders of the industry, their fellow students and future colleagues,” said Harris.

“While the Executive Certificate does provide an introduction to the industry for graduates or young professionals, advanced event managers will also benefit from training with ACEM to keep abreast of industry trends and innovations.”

Many students in Western Australia are signing up for the courses as part of a desire to do something they are passionate about, and potentially even open their own business one day.

Attending the Executive Certificate in Perth will be young event coordinator for Augusta Margaret River Tourism Association, Lisa Hoskin who was a recipient of the prestigious ACEM Young Event Manager of the Year competition this year.

In discussing her greatest achievement in event management to date, Lisa Hoskin was named the winner for playing an integral role in CowParade, a four-month public art exhibition in Margaret River, gaining skills in sponsorship, marketing, PR, operations and logistics with over 56 sponsors, 30 hosts, 75 artists, 85 life sized fiberglass cows and thousands of visitors to the region.

“I’ve always been interested in the ACEM courses and manger has previously taken part in the Executive Certificate and found it worthwhile, recommending that I apply. The course is a great extension of what I do in my everyday role plus what I have previously studied at university, but is much more targeted to provide real world experience and case studies,” said Hoskin.

“The ACEM is a well recognised institution so it will be a great addition to my experience – both for my current role at the Augusta Margaret River Tourism Association (AMRTA) and for my own event management business Functionality Events which I am just getting off the ground.”

With less than one month until the annual ACEM Executive Certificate courses begin in Perth and Melbourne, there is still time to register and further your skills and experience in event management and marketing.
