Luna Park Sydney celebrates 75 years of fun in the Crystal Palace

[Tue 05/10/2010 10:40:42]

Luna Park Sydney celebrated 75 years of history with an exclusive cocktail party in the Ballroom of its prestigious waterfront Crystal Palace Venue last Thursday (30 Sept). The event was a thank you to all who have supported the business since it re-opened in April 2004.

Amongst State representatives, media, clients and partners were Tourism & Transport Forum’s Christopher Brown, Greater Sydney Partnership’s Peter Holmes à Court, and The Hon. Tony Kelly.

Guests were treated to the colourful entertainment of Luna Park's roving performers.

MC Tracey Spicer welcomed guests, while Minister Kelly recognised that Luna Park’s Crystal Palace was recently added to the State Heritage Register. Sydney Architect and Author of “Luna Park Just for Fun” Sam Marshall reflected on decades of passion and protest to save Luna Park with a nostalgic presentation of historic imagery. The Park’s managing director Peter Hearne acknowledged Premiers Bob Carr & Morris Iemma, Ministers Andrew Refshauge, Sandra Nori, Frank Sartor, Tony Kelly and Sydney Harbour Foreshore Authority among others.

The Ballroom at Luna Park's Crystal Palace hosted the celebratory event.

Guests were treated to a selection of sumptuous canapés prepared by executive Chef Mark Taylor, including a petit salad of Alaskan king crab with green papaya jam; aquavit cured salmon with beetroot noodles and sour cream; and an assortment of mini birthday cakes. The entertainment reflected Luna Park’s history and fun with an eclectic mix of the park’s roving Showtime performers and stilt walkers, followed by a show-stopping Rat Pack’s Back performance.

Since 2004, over 800 events have taken place in Luna Park’s Venues, ranging from 60 to 8,000 guests. Highlights of 2010 include Granada Productions’ live broadcast of Australia’s Next Top Model Finale hosted by Sarah Murdoch, Microsoft’s Open House and a Virgin Mobile conference and cocktail party inside the Park’s heritage listed Coney Island.

Luna Park Sydney celebrated its official birthday yesterday (Monday, 4 October 2010.)
