Time Out Sydney reveals top restaurants for 2010

[Thu 19/08/2010 01:27:12]

Time Out has announced the winners of its prestigious Sydney Food Awards 2010.

The winners are detailed in the August issue and are also being featured on the fast-growing Time Out website during August.

On eating in Sydney this year, Myffy Rigby, Food Editor, said: “Sydney is gradually saying goodbye to the fine diner. Sure, we still need special occasion restaurants but they're not always the answer to a fun night out.

“Now we have the likes of Best New Restaurant Berta and Best Bang For Buck House and Best Casual Diner Bloodwood, not to mention mainstays like Bodega and Fratellis Paradiso and Fresh,” she said.

On where we're going next, she said: “The future of Sydney restaurants is in the hands of young chefs. Rockpool's Phil Wood, Manly Pavilion's Jonathon Barthelmess and Tetsuya's Luke Powell, just to name a few - there's a huge pool of talent out there. We want to see more late night diners, food trucks, street vendors and cool little restaurants belting out some rock'n'roll.”

On Restaurant of the Year, she said: “Our fair city may pack out a new restaurant faster than you can say 'a la carte', but Rockpool has stayed solid for 20 years, delivering with every course. Head chef Phil Wood is punching out food that's exciting, original, complex and yet completely approachable. It's an unbeatable Sydney offering.”

The winners
Best cafe
– Four Ate Five, Surry Hills
Best bang for buck – House, Surry Hills
Best casual diner – Bloodwood, Newtown
Best new restaurant – Berta, Sydney
Best service – Buzo, Woollahra
Best outta town – Vulcans, Blackheath
People’s Choice – Voted by Time Out readers - Fix St James, Sydney
Best restaurant – Rockpool
