MICE travel boost as Emirates orders 32 more A380s

[Thu 10/06/2010 02:17:29]

By James Wilkinson

Emirates’ Australian destinations could all be served by Airbus A380s in the future, following the Dubai-based airline’s order of another 32 superjumbos, taking its total tally to 90 aircraft.

Emirates has ordered 32 more Airbus A380s

The move bodes well with the conference and incentive market both in and out of Australia, with additional A380s meaning extra seats on a number of key routes worldwide.

Sydney is one of eight destinations Emirates is currently serving with the 489-seat, three-class aircraft and Melbourne has been previously flagged for a possible A380 service. The order means Brisbane and Perth could potentially also see superjumbo flights in the future.

“This latest order, adding to 58 A380s previously ordered, affirms Emirates’ strategy to become a world leading carrier and to further establish Dubai as a central gateway to worldwide air travel,” said Emirates’ Chairman and CEO, H.H. Sheikh Ahmed Bin Saeed Al- Maktoum.

“The A380 is our flagship in terms of passenger comfort, innovation, operating and environmental efficiency and revenue generation (and) our latest commitment signals Emirates’ confidence in the growth to come in a thriving aviation sector as we build our fleet for tomorrow,” he said.

Al-Maktoum said Emirates looks forward to expanding the list of destinations at more than 100 airports around the world as A380s become ready.
