PM Rudd Celebrates with One Laptop Per Child in Sydney

[Wed 02/06/2010 08:26:11]

Prime Minister Kevin Rudd was a special guest at the One Laptop Per Child 1st Anniversary Gala Dinner held last Thursday (27 May) at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Sydney.

The evening was hosted by Jeff McMullen while the Prime Minister provided a special address

Cambridge Events produced the 1st anniversary gala dinner for One Laptop Per Child (OLPC) Australia, an organisation whose efforts to provide children in very remote communities across Australia with their own laptop designed to engage primary school aged children in education.

Held in the MCA’s Foundation Hall for 200 guests, the evening celebrated the organisation’s work to date in Arnhem Land with a distinct Indigenous feel. Bronze sculptures from Yirrkala in the Northern Territory were displayed, the oval-shaped dining tables featured stunning arrangements of native flowers, provided by Tracey Deep, on earth coloured table overlays, and the stage was framed in oversize digital prints of Indigenous dot paintings previously used in OLPC collateral and featured in the event’s program, designed by ZedandBee.

The Bangarra Dance Theatre kept guests in awe

Celebrated chef Tony Bilson had travelled to East Arnhem Land to learn more of the culinary culture and had written a menu specifically for the evening based on his experience including an entrée of Stingray liver balls, oysters and sea-washed mullet and a main course of Muscovy duck, prepared by in-house caterers Culinary Edge.

The room and stage design by Cambridge Events enhanced the live performances by Emma Donovan and Bangarra Dance Theatre.

The event also featured a live performance by Emma Donovan

With the stage from Staging Rentals, lighting design by Troy Daniel working with Bytecraft Entertainment, audio design by George Gorga working with Jands Production Services and TDC providing the 6mm LED wall, the production suppliers combined brilliantly to execute the desired look, feel and atmosphere for the event.
