Royal Randwick recognised for security and operations excellence

[Tue 04/05/2010 08:34:34]

The Australian Jockey Club (AJC) was awarded with the prestigious ‘National In-House Security Team’ accolade at the Australian Security Industry Association Limited (ASIAL), 2010 Awards for Excellence held in Melbourne last Thursday (April 29).

This follows the success of the AJC Autumn Carnival 2010 which included three days of group one Thoroughbred racing, entertainment and corporate hospitality.

The AJC team with their recent win

In-house Security was introduced to the AJC three years ago, led by Shane Brady, head of security and risk to drive the strategic operations of security at the Club, including both Royal Randwick and Warwick Farm Racecourses embarking on a major overhaul and upgrade of its security operation and facilities.

Scoring the highest marks across a range of categories including strategic planning, risk management, innovation, the implementation of the Club’s security direction with the installation of the CCTV system which was piloted during the staging of World Youth Day 08, strategy for the responsible service of alcohol and the bio-security response to the Equine Influenza epidemic, the AJC was crowned with the significant award competing against national and multi-national corporations.

“Royal Randwick is the only Thoroughbred racing venue in Australia with its own in-house security team. The AJC is renowned as a preferred destination for its special events and race days and this award duly recognises the outstanding quality of the venue services particularly the strategies of security operations, safety facilitation and the professionalism and dedication of the team,” said AJC executive director, Lynell Peck.

Over the three days of Autumn Carnival 2010, the AJC deployed mounted security at Royal Randwick, a first for a commercial venue in the Southern Hemisphere to take such preventative measures and to take the lead to enhance services and security for our members and guests whilst upholding the safety ethic of the Club.
