Kiwi GM Rocks Hard At Launch

[Tue 24/11/2009 10:12:44]

The Hard Rock Cafe Penang, the second Hard Rock Cafe in Malaysia, opened recently with a rocking celeb-filled night opened by the Chief Minister of Penang, Yang Amat Berhormat Tuan Lim Guan Eng and the hotel’s Kiwi general manager John Primmer.

The V.I.P. grand opening celebration included dignitaries, local celebrities and musicians watching a convoy of Harley Davidson motorcycles escorting the Chief Minister to the entrance of the hotel.

“This was just the trailer to the exciting line up for the night. It began with a mixed cultural drum performance, followed by the obligatory Hard Rock Cafes commemorative guitar smashing that comes with the opening of each new Hard Rock Café,” said Primmer.

Fire performers and guitar heros rocked out for the official launch.

The guests for the night were treated to some of Hard Rock Cafe’s most scrumptious specialities such as Twist & Shout breads, Tupelo chicken tenders with heavy metal sauce and Mini Legendary burgers, while listening to soothing music renditions by Malaysia’s answer to Michael Buble, crooner Arthur Manuntang, as well as a thrilling live performance by Malaysian rock stars Ella and Zainal Abidin.

Models showcased Hard Rock’s latest merchandise over catwalks set amongst the crowds on the ground floor and at the mezzanine – much to the guest’s surprise. Later in the night, guests partied away to an electrifying live band performance by The Groove Company.

Since its opening, the Hard Rock Hotel Penang has also had high demand for its conference facilities with pharmaceutical, IT and multinational corporations among the first to showcase the hotel to their staff.

“Demand is high,” said Primmer. “With three meeting rooms and one large ballroom, we cater to functions of different sizes - as small as 20 people in a meeting room and up to 250 people in our ballroom. Feedback has been outstanding.”

Venue options include a rock ‘n’ roll themed ballroom and several meeting rooms where meetings, conferences and parties for 20 to 260 persons are uniquely fun, dynamic and energised with the Hard Rock Hotel's edgy Rock-inspired spirit.

Abbey Road, Graceland & Paisley Park are the three flexible meeting rooms ideal for smaller meeting groups. What better way to inspire your staff and get the creative juices flowing than to be surrounded by the creative legends of the Beatles, Elvis and Prince.

State-of-the-art audiovisual and lighting equipment, effective sound-proofing, accessible toilets, direct access for vehicles into the pillar-less ballroom, themed buffets and coffee breaks, and unique activities are all features to ensure your meeting or conference is a hit.

As the leading entertainment hotel in Penang, there is a host of facilities and activities to enjoy — from hardcore raft-building games and “X” treme dragon-boat competitions to magnificent sunset cruises and rugged jungle trekking.

After a hard day conferencing, delegates can head to the Rock Spa for some relaxation and pampering. Or, simply lounge around the largest free-form pool in Penang, taking in the sunset from large private cabanas. Additionally the Cafe is the new place to jam after the conferencing day concludes. The cafe seats 130 persons with a live band stage and a Rock Shop, which sells Hard Rock’s latest and limited edition merchandise.

“Travel to Malaysia has never been more affordable,” says Primmer, who has enticed more than a few Kiwi friends over for a visit since the hotel’s launch in September.
