First Look Deals at Restored Quamby Estate

Anthology, the owners of historic Quamby Estate in Tasmania, are offering a “first look” deal exclusively for the travel trade to mark the completion of the first round of restoration at the luxurious heritage property.

Following the purchase of Quamby in 2008, Anthology has been working closely with heritage architects and builders to restore the home to its former glory.
Nine rooms have now been completed in the main house which retains its heritage feel – marble fireplaces, wide verandahs, bushranger shutters, soaring ceilings, decorative cornices, servant bells – while also introducing a contemporary look and feel to the interior design. Artefacts, paintings and ceramics produced by local Tasmanian artists are also featured at the Lodge.
To showcase the new property, Anthology is offering 50 per cent off a bed and breakfast package until September 26, 2009. Prices range from $134 to $198.
Ideal for incentive trips, Quamby was built in the 1830s and is a rare example of Anglo Indian architecture. In addition to the main house, there are various heritage listed outbuildings on the estate including the original manager’s residence and office (c1852), a blacksmith’s workshop, stables, granary and shearing shed.
Following a $280,000 conversion, the stables will serve as the walking base for guests of the Bay of Fires and Cradle Mountain Huts walks when the season opens in October.
The former contemporary “conservatory” style restaurant has been upgraded to a stylish and modern functions space for weddings, conferences and events. It also will serve lunch on weekends for the residents of local villages and farms and guests at Quamby. Plans are currently under development for further luxury guest accommodation on the estate.
The homestead holds great historic significance. It was the home of Sir Richard Dry, the state’s first Tasmanian born Premier, held in high regard by colleagues and the English royal family. As such it has been referred to as Tasmania’s “Parliament House of the North.”
Quamby is located 20 minutes outside Launceston and is set on 64 hectares of picturesque countryside consisting of rolling hills, lakes and ancient trees.
Entry to the estate is along a 1.6km drive lined with hawthorn, poplar and elm trees. Gaps between the trees show glimpses of the Ben Lomand Ranges and the beautifully groomed nine-hole private golf course.
