Observatory Hotel Takes Out Top AHA Award

[Tue 05/05/2009 02:58:07]

By James Wilkinson

Sydney’s Observatory Hotel has added another gong to its esteemed collection, winning best deluxe hotel at the Australian Hotels Association’s (AHA) NSW accommodation division awards for excellence last night (May 4).

The sun shines on Sydney's Observatory Hotel

Hosted by AHA (NSW) accommodation division chairman Richard Munro and held at Star City, the awards attracted over 450 hoteliers, leading suppliers and politicians and saw 143 finalists vying for the 30 awards on offer.

“This year’s AHA NSW Accommodation Awards received an impressive number of entries from across New South Wales and the benchmark for industry excellence continues to rise,” Munro said.

“I am particularly proud of the 11 accommodation hotel employees who received individual awards this year as they are the future of our industry.”

The Observatory Hotel was one of three properties to take out three awards – also winning Health Club & Spa Facilities of the Year award and the the Rising Star award, which recognised Observatory staff member Chriscelle Captio.

“I am delighted with our win at the prestigious AHA awards ceremony last night,” Patrick Griffin, regional managing director for Orient Express Hotels Australia, the Observatory's owner, told SpiceNews.

Lilianfels Blue Mountains Resort and Spa, our sister property, scooped the Regional Deluxe Hotel title last year and our Deluxe Hotel of the Year accolade is a great way to follow this up. And to add Health Club and Spa Facilities of the Year and Hotel Industry Rising Star to this year’s list surpasses all expectations," he said.

“We have a responsibility now, more than ever, to consistently deliver the highest quality of hospitality and guest experience as well as maintain our professional and attentive service for which we are so well known.”

The Sydney Harbour Marriott and Four Seasons Hotel Sydney also took out three awards each, while Crowne Plaza Newcastle and Amora Hotel Jamison Sydney scooped two of the major awards.

Sheraton on the Park in Sydney won the only MICE award on the night, taking out function venue of the year.
