Garuda Set For New Aircraft

Garuda Indonesia is set to receive the first of 50 brand new Boeing 737-800 aircraft in June 2009 as the airline continues to expand and revamp its entire short- and long-haul fleet.

The airline signed a lease agreement earlier this week for the first eight B737s which will be used on short-haul routes, including Australia. The airline operates B737-800 flights to Perth, with Denpasar-Adelaide services set to commence during 2009.
“These new aircraft are specifically configured for Garuda Indonesia, with more advanced avionics, more fuel efficient, eco-friendly engines, and a state of the art inflight entertainment system in all classes,” said Garuda Indonesia president and CEO, Emirsyah Satar.
“In addition to these 50 Boeing 737 next generation aircraft, Garuda Indonesia has also ordered 10 Boeing B777-300ER which will be delivered in 2010 to back up the airline's network expansions to cope with business development in 2009 and beyond.”
The new aircraft will boost Australia-Indonesia flights, with Garuda, Pacific Blue and Jetstar all operating some of the world’s youngest aircraft on Denpasar flights from Adelaide, Brisbane, Darwin, Melbourne, Perth and Sydney.
