Microsoft Hires US Rockers to Perform on Warship in Sydney Harbour

[Thu 05/02/2009 02:53:22]

Microsoft, Universal Music Australia and the Royal Australian Navy have come together to produce a monumental event that will see popular US band Fallout Boy perform on the deck of a warship moored in Sydney Harbour.

The Feb 22 event is geared to promote Microsoft's Xbox music-themed video games, with 400 tickets offered through competitions and promotions. Also in attendance will be the 140 crew members of the HMAS Tolbruk, the Navy frigate selected to host the event.

Fallout Boy will perform on the HMAS Tobruk on Feb 22

HMAS Tobruk commanding officer, Peter Thompson said the event was a great opportunity for the navy. “Our crew haws been working hard and this performance is a great way to say thank you,” he said.

Added Microsoft regional director - entertainment & devices, David McLean: “We set the bar high with the Pussycat Dolls performance at the Sydney Opera House last year, and we’re keeping it huge by delivering fans a Fall Out Boy performance that money just can’t buy. Seeing them perform in this unique location with the Sydney Harbour Bridge in the background — it’s going to be awesome and we can’t wait.”

Touring nationally next month, Fall Out Boy have recently released their new album, Folie à Deux, featuring the singles 'I Don’t Care' and 'America’s Suitehearts'. It follows the release of 2007’s album Infinity On High which sold more than 2 million copies worldwide.

“Fall Out Boy come to Australia as one of the world’s most popular bands and we’re excited to be teaming up with our friends at Xbox for another Xbox Sounds event”, said Universal Music Australia managing director, George Ash.
