Tiger Airways 'Tigers' Take To Adelaide

[Wed 28/01/2009 02:14:29]

 By Gwen O’Toole

Fifty actors in tiger suits turned heads and stoped traffic on the streets of Adelaide on Tuesday (January 27) in an event coordinated by The South Australia Tourism Commission and Tiger Airways celebrating the upcoming expansion of Tiger’s services in the state.

The 50 ‘tigers’ will pounce onto the Glenelg tram, which was painted in tiger colours surprising commuters and delighting children. The wild bunch then made their way prowling through Rundle Mall, Tea Tree Plaza, Marion and West Lakes Westfield shopping centres, Adelaide Central Market and The Parade.

“One of the key strategies in the recently launched South Australian Tourism Plan 2009-2014 is to make Adelaide a destination that can be easily and affordably reached,” said South Australian Tourism Commission CEO, Andrew McEvoy.

“Tiger’s commitment to opening its second Australian base here in Adelaide assists us in reaching our goal of increasing weekly domestic passenger seat numbers to 100,000 by 2014. This has a positive flow on effect for tourism and business to SA that translates into benefits for the South Australian economy.”

Tiger Airways managing director Shelley Roberts said that basing operations in Adelaide will create jobs and drive competition in the local travel industry.

“Today there are Tigers all over the streets of Adelaide, but very soon there will be Tigers all over the skies as well,” he said. “Flights from our Adelaide base are already on sale, and the amazing fares are proof that Tiger Airways is leading the low fare revolution in Australia.

“With our new Adelaide base we will continue to grow in 2009 by giving our passengers what they want: amazing low fares to great destinations in the youngest fleet of any airline in Australia.”
