Pacific Blue Launches Solomon Island Flights

[Tue 02/12/2008 10:45:10]

By James Wilkinson

Another direct air link between Australia and the Solomon Islands was launched today (December 2), when Pacific Blue inaugurated its twice-weekly Brisbane-Honiara service.

Pacific Blue marked the launch of its new Brisbane-Honiara
service with a celebration flight for media and industry members

The new flights come as the awareness of leisure and conference travel to the Solomon Islands increases in Australia as a result of an extensive public relations and marketing program over the last twelve months.

“The permission to allow the new airline to operate two flights a week between Brisbane and Honiara is in line with the Government’s open air policy and its desire to increase the country’s tourist arrivals from Australia,” said Solomon Islands Prime Minister, Dr Derek Sikua.

Virgin Blue CEO, Brett Godfrey, said Pacific Blue’s strong brand awareness would bring numerous benefits.

“By bringing Pacific Blue’s tried and tested business model to the Solomon Island market and offering guests flight options and, of course, our low fares to boost competition on the route, we know these services will help stimulate tourism and increase visitor arrivals to this glorious destination,” he said.

Pacific Blue held a departing flight celebration at Brisbane Airport this morning that was attended by key Virgin Blue and Brisbane Airport staff. A cake was cut and passengers were handed garlands and ‘We’re flying Solo Mon’ T-shirts.

Dignitaries from the Solomon Island Government and Visitors Bureau then greeted the arriving flight in Honiara with a special welcome function.
