Captain Cook Cruises Suggest Groups Go Walkabout

[Sun 11/05/2008 12:00:00]

By Gwen O'Toole

Celebrating the release of the much anticipated epic film Australia, Captain Cook Cruises is offering groups an Australian River Spirit package including a three or four night Murray River cruise, Barossa Valley tour, plus a free Greater Union Cinema Pass.

Captain Cook Cruises Murray Princess

The PS Murray Princess cruising down the Murray River

Groups traveling onboard the PS Murray Princess are transported back to the 1800’s, with the vessel’s interiors of polished wood, gold trimmings, a winding staircase, full length windows and a paddle wheel encased in glass.

The 280km journey down the Murray between the Blanchetown area and Murray Bridge shows off the area’s unique terrain and wildlife allowing guests to re-connect to Australia’s heritage and culture. In the true spirit of the film, guest will cruise through the ancient limestone cliffs, picturesque gorges and along riverbanks lined with mallee scrub, red gum forests and century old stone causeways.

Led by onshore guides, passengers can enjoy relaxing nature walks, nocturnal eco-tours and learn about the ecology of this beautiful river. Each day features day trips to historic ports, sacred Aboriginal sites, a sheep station and woolshed and a native wildlife shelter.

There’s a food and wine trial that enables tasting at a number of vineyards and cellar doors, and in the evening, an Aussie-style campfire barbecue on the river bank.

The ‘Australian River Spirit’ packages are valid for sale to 15 January 2009 and valid for travel from 01 November 2008 to 28 February 2009.

For more information on costs and package inclusions, call 1800 804 843 or email murray@captaincook.com.au.
